Liverpool Parish Hosts Day Retreat "Diakonia”
With the blessing of His Eminence Archbishop Makarios of Australia, the Parish of St Raphael, Nicholas and Irene, Liverpool, held a spiritually enriching day retreat, Diakonia, on Saturday, 30 August 2025, at Panorama House, Maddens Plains, NSW.
Over 100 parishioners gathered for a day of prayer, fellowship, reflection, learning, and community connection. The day commenced with prayer and a warm welcome by the parish priest, Father Asterios, who encouraged parishioners to embrace the life of the Church through active ministry.
A highlight of the retreat was a presentation by Father Anastasios Bozikis, a lecturer at St Andrew’s Greek Orthodox Theological College, who explored the structure of the early Church and its ministries, emphasising the timeless call to discipleship, evangelisation, and unity in Christ.
Through interactive activities and moments of self-reflection, participants explored practical ways to minister to others, whether through humble service, charitable aid, or spreading the Gospel, while discerning their own gifts for service to the Church and wider community.
Throughout the day, parishioners enjoyed delicious meals and ample opportunities to connect and build bonds within the community. The uplifting atmosphere was made possible thanks to the tireless efforts of dedicated volunteers, whose service ensured a well-organised and spiritually rewarding event.
This retreat forms a vital part of the parish’s strategic vision, demonstrating its commitment to guide and empower parishioners to spread the Orthodox faith and preserve the Hellenic tradition for generations to come.
