How do I become Orthodox?
Becoming Orthodox is not simply joining an institution, but entering into the life of the Church, the Body of Christ. It is a journey of faith, prayer, and transformation.

If you are considering becoming Orthodox, here are the usual steps:

-
Enquiry – Begin by attending services, asking questions, and getting to know the parish. This is a time to explore and learn.
-
Catechumenate – When you are ready, you may be received as a catechumen (a learner preparing for baptism or chrismation). This is an important step of commitment, where you are formally prayed into the Church and begin a time of learning and preparation.
-
Instruction and Formation – You will spend time learning about the Orthodox faith, Scripture, worship, and how to live the life of the Church. This usually involves regular meetings with the priest and attending services.
-
Reception into the Church – When both you and your priest discern the right time, you will be received into the Orthodox Church, either through Holy Baptism (if you have never been baptised) or Chrismation (anointing with holy oil, if you have been baptised in another Christian tradition).

This process is not rushed, it is a journey at the pace that is best for your spiritual growth. Every person’s story is unique, but all are welcomed with love and patience.

If you feel drawn to take the next step, we invite you to speak with our parish priest, attend services, and begin walking the path toward becoming Orthodox.
