GREEK SCHOOL ANNOUNCEMENT
Dear Parents and Fellow Parishioners,
Our Community Languages School received the letter below from the NSW Department of Education. The Parish Committee approached the Department of Education to reconsider its decision to close the school but was unsuccessful. Therefore, our school will be closed for the remainder of this term. To assist our children with their studies, teachers will prepare work for the children and the work will be disseminated every Tuesday afternoon and Saturday morning to parents. The teachers will be on site on Tuesday at 4:30pm and on Saturday at 9:00am. When parents collect the new work prepared by the teachers, the children’s completed homework from the previous week will be passed on to the teachers to mark and provide feedback. This approach will allow the children to continue with their learning of the Greek language, until the school re-opens for Term 4.
Over the past couple of months our school has continued with face-to-face teaching and learning and it has been a credit to our teachers, while other community languages schools were closed.
It has been a very interesting and challenging year due to the coronavirus pandemic and I wish to thank all the parents for their patience and understanding.
Dear Community Languages Schools and Host Schools,
A message from Lynne Irvine, Executive Director, School Operations and Strategic Partnerships:
The Department of Education has been, and continues to be, in regular contact with NSW Health to seek advice about the ongoing support for schools to ensure that they remain safe for students and staff. The Department updates its advice to schools regularly with regard to any restrictions that need to be placed on the day-to-day activities in schools based on the information provided by NSW Health.
In response to the latest advice from NSW Health, the Community Languages Schools Program will need to implement new measures to minimise the risk of COVID-19 transmission for students and staff across all host sites. Advice from NSW Health is that students are not to travel outside of their local community area and we are not to mix students from many schools and local areas onto public schools sites.
We thank you for the work you do for the students in our Community Languages Schools and appreciate that this is a very difficult time for us all.
These measures will be in effect from Monday 31 August 2020 for the remainder of Term 3.
All Community Languages classes must be delivered online until the end of Term 3
Community Language classes are not to be run in host schools
Support will be provided by the Community Languages Schools Program and the Program Education Officers.
It is expected that the Community Use Agreements held with public schools will be re-activated when these current restrictions are lifted.
These safety measures are designed to keep everyone well and to minimise the spread of COVID-19 across communities.
Thank you for your understanding and for your ongoing support of the Community Languages Schools Program.

We welcome Fr Prochoros with joy to the Parish of Saints Raphael, Nicholas and Irene and the Community of Liverpool and Districts. He returns to us after serving the Parish of The Resurrection of Christ, the Lady of the Myrtles and Saint Elesa and the Community of Kogarah and Districts. We look forward to his ministry and wish him well in reconnecting with the laity. We are certain that he will embrace us all with his spiritual leadership from the pulpit. May the Lord and our Patron Saints bless him throughout his service in our humble parish.

We farewell Father Dimitrios Papaikonomou and Presvytera Ifegenia after two and half years of devoted service to the Parish of Saints Raphael, Nicholas and Irene and the Community of Liverpool and Districts. We wish Father Dimitrios and his family all the very best with his appointment to the Parish of The Resurrection of Christ, the Lady of the Myrtles and Saint Elesa and the Community of Kogarah and Districts.
